He began his career at NHK Hiroshima in 1990, working on major current-affairs and documentary programs. After studying film production at the American Film Institute, he contributed to over 40 international co-productions. He became the first Asian recipient of the Doc Mogul Award at Hot Docs. As planning producer and co-producer of Burning, the film received the FIPRESCI Prize at Cannes.
